No matter if the season is a short one or is long and involved, every swimmer eventually hits that all-important time of the year. The time of the year when the best swimmer in your club has their opportunity for every mother’s dream. The time of the year when the best swimmer in your club has the chance to represent their pool at a regional or state meet.

Many parents who are swimming with their kids are new to this level of competition, and a lot of questions are on your mind.

Here are some things you should know.

Is the meet the best time to see how my swimmer stacks up against the competition?

The meets that offer the best opportunity to see how your swimmer is doing against the competition are league meets. If you don’t already belong to a team, and are considering one, league is usually more relaxed and friendlier than club, although you must understand that it’s still a competitive event.

Regardless of your reason for swimming (in the off season, for fun, as a fitness opportunity, to build your child’s self-esteem, or all of the above), you’re probably looking forward to your swimmer performing well at the meet. And, every parent wants to see their swimmer shine.
